Job Description
For innovation work, this Engineer will interact with BG and BU skin cleansing product developers in addition to collaborating with Supply Chain to facilitate product scale-up. For capability work, global collaboration across the R&D and Supply Chain network will be key as capabilities need to be designed not just for skin cleansing, but for as many product types as possible (within and outside the PC division). Lastly, for digital processing development, this position will need to collaborate with the global network of cross functional R&D colleagues and Supply Chain to ensure relevant tools/models land with maximum value and utilization.
- Advise on and support the process design and scale up of key innovations globally across internal and external manufacturers. This will be critical in delivering iTo back to the business by ensuring formulations can be delivered to market on time and in full with minimal post launch support or issue management.
- Upskill the skin cleansing community, and in time the entire R&D community, the candidate would champion a new, structured data workflow aimed at leveraging Design of Experiment principles for both formulation and process design. This work will quantify scale up risk for new innovations and therefore start to minimize the number of plant trials needed, while also ensuring robust formulation and processes land in our factories, ultimately improving their right first time.
- Collaborate with x-functions to drive efficiencies across key core formulation development activities. This will lead to more streamlined processes and unlock considerable capacity, allowing all to better meet the ever-changing demand in this post-COVID world. It will allow us to continue to grow our innovations and deliver bottom line growth back to the business
- Provide support for the enhancement of current or the creation of new digital processing tools within the global development community. Creating an integrated, seamless ecosystem of digital processing tools will unlock exponentially increasing value back to the business by increasing productivity across the processing organization.
- Organize and manage the continued testing and design of new process capability technology for Superior Products. It will be important to extend the current capability that is being developed, while ensuring the funnel of innovation in this space remains full, guaranteeing value back to the business when the technology lands in manufacturing sites.
- Support efforts to land and validate new processing capabilities in factory scale environments. Validating technologies is the first step to realizing their true value and provides justification to rolling the universally designed technology to interested global manufacturing sites.
What You’ll Need To Succeed
- 3+ years of basic technical competence in pilot plant operations across batch and sonolation processes as well as operation of key measurement devices (rheometer, pH, density, conductivity)
- Basic Supply Chain knowledge related to compounding and downstream operations related to product delivery to pack lines
- Able to effectively organize and manage workflow of multiple projects and priorities in a dynamic global work environment.
- Ability to communicate issues effectively to technical and non-technical personnel. (Brand, Finance, Manufacturing, Consultants, Leadership)
- Work effectively with extended teams composed of individuals with technical and non-technical backgrounds & perspectives.
- Understand consumer, business, and category needs while operating with strategy considerations to deliver the teams’ goals in addition to the larger Unilever Compass.
- Ability to continuously improve and utilize digital capabilities as a fundamental skill. Deploying these to colleagues needs to be part of consistent delivery.
